Lexicon: 'longliner'

Offshore

As you will know (or at least Miguel Esteves Cardoso and Rui Tavares know), the Commission referred to in the European Parliament approved the new agreement signed under the Partnership Agreement Fishing ( FPA) between the European Union (EU) and Cape Verde, to be voted on this week. This agreement authorizes the European fishing vessels, including Portuguese territorial waters in the Cape Verdean: 28 tuna seiners, 35 surface longliners and 11 tuna with sugar cane. As to the former and the latter, I believe that there is no doubt - but what is a 'long liner "and whence came the term? The general dictionaries of English do not register. The suspicion was that the English word led me to consult the DRAE: here it is: palangreros is the fishing boat with longline that the line is long e grosso that pending a corde mais espaço espaço a fine nose as Anzo extremidades. Or do espanhol é or etymological vocabulary Catalão longline : " gear which consists essentially in a long rope called mother, whose other hanging strings thinner called braçols , each of which was provided with its free end a hook .
